About the Paintings:
This exhibit showcases paintings, prints, and drawings which present tranquil
calming views of the landscape. William Bock's new
series of paintings feature his trademark squares of gold, silver, and copper leaf which
lend a feeling of shimmering movement to his seascapes. Susumo
Endo's lithographs, which are displayed in several museums all over the world,
including the British Museum, evoke a Zen-like quality of restfulness through the
interplay of rectilinear shapes and muted, digitally-altered photographs. Tamekane's
woodblock and calligraphic prints on handmade paper are akin to playful abstract dances
which transport the viewer into his pieces. Flo Lowe's tranquil compositions have been
compared to Monet's water lilies and flowers. Her acrylic on canvas paintings
successfully flow between abstraction and soft spatial definition allowing the viewer to
share in the experience of each piece.
