James Carl Aschbacher
The images of James Aschbacher are painted on pasteboard mounted on small to medium sized hand carved wooden panels.  James combines bright areas of color with human and animal forms, etched symbols, and geometric shapes.  James is influence by the uninhibited quality of children's art, and also includes in his work a strong sense of design.  Although James has no formal training, he understands that the core of an artist's  success is the desire for self expression, and the tenacity to do the work.

"Determined Angel"
James' pictures must be viewed on multiple levels.  They are carefully considered graphic compositions, and are also rich with symbolic and figurative representations. While viewing them, the mind wanders from interpreting symbols, to appreciating pattern and form.   Each image is a complex graphic abstraction that seems to tell a story, but they are not illustrations.  Nonetheless, each piece feels as though it has secret meaning, hidden in the detailed arrangement of figures and symbols.
James captivates some children.
