Suzanne Baker
Raymond, California
Birth of Tuolome
acrylic on canvas, 22x26
Suzanne's luminous landscape is similar in style to the works
of the 19th century American painter Thomas Moran. Nature is portrayed
as both ominous, and mysteriously beautiful. The piece is largely
realistic, but is painted with a bold brushstroke that accentuates the
ruggedness of nature. The alpine light striking the mountain peaks
is the focus of the scene. The light diffusing through the clouds,
and caressing the mountain face, is a key element in the creation of
the sense of a new beginning implied by the title.
