Lea Pianna |
Lea Pianna creates eerily illuminated constructions that combine sculpted fiberglass with vibrant color, organic forms and materials, and the recurring theme of large, lidless eyes. Her work presents a vibrant, almost psychedelic vision of the natural world. Her pieces are playful and imaginative, and are endowed with an inner life as well as an inner light.
In addition to her 3D creations, she has recently begun a series of drawings and prints with cosmic spiritual themes. Her painted work consists of radiating abstract fields of color, and is influenced by the diversity and mystery of life, and the awesome power of the fiery chaos hidden within mother earth. This year Lea accompanied her works on display with an instrumental soundtrack entitled "Gravikords, Whirlires, and Pyrophones." The soundtrack is written and produced by Bart Hopkin, with an introduction by Tom Waitts, and features compositions created for experimental instruments. The CD as well as a very cool book can be purchased from Ellipsis Arts, 20 Lumber Road STE 1, Rosylyn, NY 11576-9894 email: elliarts@aol.com To learn more about Lea's artwork, click on the link below to view our coverage of her work from Open Studios 1997. |
