Byorg Yonts
Byorg Yonts creates elegant sculpture in sensuous stone.
Over the last ten years, Byorg has honed her skills at iteliers in Santa
Cruz, Mexico, and Italy. Her work combines elements of classical
sculpture with an elegant style of her own. Truncated limbs and rough surfaces
imply the breakage and weathering of ancient scuplture damaged by time.
Sinuous lines, and seductive textures remind the viewer of the works of
modern minimalist sculptors. Byorg focuses on figurative and animal
subjects carved from marble and alabaster, carefully selected for its grain
and texture. Her work is lusterous, and strongly reactive to light.
Byorg creates a balance between form and texture. The importance
of each seems equal, and the viewer's attention shifts between the bold
and simple lines of the subject and the rich textures of the surface.
