Mott Jordan
Mott Jordon's paintings contain both representative imagery
and colorful abstraction. Mott works in oils, acrylics, watercolor
and montage. He combines a strong graphic style with a painterly quality
that adds a pleasing depth to the work. His palette is both rich
and mysterious. Vibrant tones are juxtaposed beside smoky greys,
atmospheric blues, and sunset oranges that give his paintings the impression
of twilight or fire in the distance. His images deal with modern
themes that are sometimes playful, sometimes angst ridden, and are charged
with suggestions of the chaotic nature of humanity. Mott's work seems
to fall into two catagories, large scale paintings portaying surreal landscapes
inhabited by exaggerated human figures in awkward and uncomfortable poses,
and smaller mixed media works that have a strong graphic quality, and combine
bold designs, anthropomorphic elements, and references to pop culture.
His works include playful subjects like the "Flying Saucer Pilots" and
dreamlike scenes that seem to elude to the state of mankind. Emotional
conflict, war, technology, and other subjects that influence modern
culture are portrayed in his work.
