The Art League The Santa Cruz Art League sponsors classes, performances, and exhibitions in Santa Cruz County.  The Art League headquarters is centrally located at 526 Broadway.  The well maintained and pleasantly landscaped structure contains a number of classrooms and studios, and a modest, but spacious gallery space.   The Art League was responsible for hosting the Open Studios Preview Exhibition from September 19th to October 19th.  The exhibition displayed one representative piece from each of the Open Studios artists.  The Open Studios event was initiated by the Cultural Council in 1985  as a means of promoting the artistic community of Santa Cruz world wide.

The Art League exhibition was well thought out, and skillfully installed by the Open Studios Committee, and a group of volunteer artists.  Hanging over 200 pieces in a limited space is a daunting challenge. The committee  did a superb job of giving each piece the best possible presentation.  The work displayed was richly diverse, and was without doubt an honest representation of the work displayed throughout the county.  The range of media and talent was impressive and engaging.  The quality of the art and the skill of the artists chosen  for the Open Studios event is evident in the Art League show.  It is clear that the Cultural Council and the Art league did a great job insuring the overall quality of the artwork, and the dedication of the artists chosen to their craft.  Please don't forget a modest donation!
