ERNEST BOCK is an accomplished painter currently continuing his studies at the SW Focal Point Community Center. He takes drawing and watercolor classes under the direction of Daniel Angulo (art professional) who teaches many styles and levels of art at the SWFP. Currently on display at William Bock Fine Art are his watercolors of seascapes by Winslow Homer. His paintings, as in “Fishing Boats, Key West” exquisitely capture the style and technique of Homer while still showing Bock’s personal flair. Since retiring from his corporate position, he has had more time to devote to painting.

WILLIAM BOCK exhibits a series of "geo-panels", which portray in vertical constructions, the geological history, and the plant and animal life of Florida. Bock says “The artwork depicts the geological layers underlying our state and reveals its make-up over the eons. What we normally see when we look at Florida is the surface. Delving into our state's unique underlying geological layers offers insights into our past and future.” The images are composed of ceramic, keystone (fossilized coral reef), and mixed media. The subject matter of these pieces extends from the earth's molten core upwards through the sedimentary layers to the sea floor, into the tropical seas, through the atmosphere, and in some cases into space.

Born in Chicago, he began his professional career at Indiana University, followed by an apprenticeship at the Johnson Atelier Technical Institute and School of Sculpture in Trenton, New Jersey. He received his Masters of Fine Arts degree at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore in 1987. He has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and has participated in several museum exhibitions. He has won numerous awards for his painting and his work is included in many prestigious collections including Merrill Lynch, AT&T, Allstate, The National Save the Sea Turtle foundation, the United States Embassy Bahamas and the IGFA fishing hall of Fame.

About the Gallery:
William Bock Fine Art’s history goes back to its partnership with The Williams Gallery, formerly of Princeton, NJ. Three artists sharing the name of William: Douglas William, William Bradford and Jonathan William under the tutelage of their father Ernest William Bock were the inaugural artists exhibited at that location. Gallery founder, Mary Lou Bock, continued the family legacy of involvement in the arts which dates back to Central and Western Europe in the 1800's, expanding its representation to include contemporary artists. The two galleries are now merged in South Florida.

Gallery owner, William Bock: MFA, is an associate of the AIC (American Institute for the Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works) and member of the American Society of Appraisers. He has over 30 years of experience in picture framing, frame repairs, art restoration, art appraisals, paper conservation, antique map restoration and gallery management. He has provided restoration, conservation, appraisal to State Farm, the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art, the Ft. Lauderdale main library, The Asbury Collection of Antique Maps, and many individual clients. His paintings and original prints (with an emphasis on nature, conservation and animal life) are in many private collections.
